Horti Fair: Innovations focus on saving energy

Saving energy was one of the one of the red lines running through the innovations introduced at the International Horti Fair. It is what the industry needs as energy costs rise. The Dutch Minister for Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality opened the International Horti Fair in Amsterdam with the clear message that the government would not be compensating greenhouse growers for the rise in the energy prices. "There will be no subsidies for the higher energy costs: We would never get permission from Brussels for that. Besides, in the long term this would only weaken the sector," said Minister Gees Veerman. "The coming period will be difficult but should be seen as a step to a more energy efficient greenhouse sector."
