Controlled supply of Cu and less disease

A unit for the controlled supply of copper ions for plant nutrition has been a household name in Denmark for some years. An additional benefit and perhaps a more important one, is its ability to control root diseases such as Pythium and Phytopthera. It has been known for some time that a controlled level of copper ions can contribute considerably to the control of fungus attacks, specially Pythium and Phytophthora. Both can be very destructive and their zoospores are spread in watery environments. However, applying a controlled dose of copper ions is extremely difficult because copper ions applied chemically very quickly become tied up with other molecules. Not only are they then less available for nutritional purposes they also loose their lethal effect on zoospores.
