New approach to wire worm control

Using phemmone traps to lure adult beetles rather than use pesticides to kill their damaging larvae appears to be a valuable tool in a crop protection system. Wireworms can severely damage many crops, such as vegetables, root crops and strawberries. T o try and find a solution, two Dutch institutes, Applied Plant Research (PPO-AGV) in Lelystad and Plant Research International (PRI) in Wageningen, have been testing a new integrated crop protection system to reduce wireworm populations and, in this case , potato damage. What's unusual about this system is that it focuses not on the wireworm but on the adult beetle.
