According to information provided by Afruex, the association of fruit producers of Extremadura, this year's harvest of summer fruit is not likely to be exceeding the 200,000 tonne limit. The largest drop will be for plums, for which - depending on thevariety - a decrease of 50 % is expected. The early varieties harvested in early June will be the ones most affected. For pears, Afruex is expecting a minus of 10 - 15 %. There will be a normal harvest for peaches and nectarines. There is no special reason for the smaller quantities. The winter was good, but it was perhaps slightly too dry. However, as there was a record harvest last year, it is quite normal for this year's production to be lower.
