Increasing competition, lack of interest in a healthy lifestyle and uncertainty about MRL exceedances make selling fruit and vegetables in Russia difficult. On the other hand, the market has large opportunities as salaries are rising and the per capita consumption of fruit and vegetables is way behind the European average. Retailers and producers discussed possibilities during a Russian workshop at Fresh 2008.
