Tim Rollinson, DG -- a tried and tested skipper

Forestry Commission's new Director General, Tim Rollinson is a Commission man through and through, and proud of it. Starting as an assistant district officer in Kent 27 years ago, Tim has progressed to the top job in a career that has taken him through the heart of the organisation in a variety of roles. From Kent he moved to the New Forest, thence to the then obligatory spell in Forest Research before becoming involved in policy and planning which involved him in the 'Flow Country' affair in the north of Scotland in the 1980s - a seminal moment for the then ebullient private forestry sector. A spell in parliamentary affairs led to him becoming FC Secretary, then Chief Conservator England in Cambridge. From there, he winged back to Sylvan House as Director of the Forestry Group before becoming DG in February of this year.
