Taking it to the bridge

Two old timber bridges on the Fairy Knowe trail near Barr Village have been given a 'lift' thanks to a Royal Navy helicopter from HMS Gannet. Both the old timber bridges were getting tired and in need of repair so staff from Forestry Commission Scotland joined forces with South. Ayrshire Council and the Royal Navy to install new steel beamed timber bridges. One of the bridges was next to a forest road so moving the steel beams and timber to the site was relatively straightforward. However, the second bridge was 12 metres long and the steel and timber needed for its construction weighed in at over two tonnes.
