Choice of screen colour depends on traits desired

With the increasing use of coloured shade on foliage and plant production in general, experiments have been conducted at the Experimental Station Fabio Baudrit, part of the Universidad de Costa Rica, analyzing the effect of different colours on ornamental crops. In one of them, Gerard Ducca Jimenez evaluated the effect of six coloured shades on 20 foliage species of economical importance (encompassing six botanical families), for 30 months. During this period the evaluated plant variables were tip growth, number, width and length of leaves, among others. The observed climate variable was the Red: Far Red ratio as a measure of light quality.
