Usually, the weather is one of the most important external variables influencing cost of plant production. Fortunately, greenhouses are designed to create optimised environments in which crops can grow. There are many options beyond just using more orless heat however when it comes to manipulating production. In fact, rising energy costs make the move towards a multi-strategic approach even more critical. There is more to 'energy efficiency' than just turning the greenhouse thermostat down. Enhancing efficiency could be reached by applying several strategies. When using this full range of strategies, efficiency allows growers to manage production costs without compromising quality of finished plants. Four of these strategies are discussed here.
