Nonlinear Behavior of Barium Titanate Single Crystals in Strong Electric Fields

摘要

XRD studies and dielectric measurements of BaTiO_3 single crystals in applied electrostatic fields up to 5.5 centre dot 10~7 V/m have been conducted. From the observed unit-cell parameter variation as a function of the applied field E, the E-dependence of the piezoelectric coefficient d_(33) has been evaluated. In the applied field range studied, the piezoelectric coefficient and dielectric permittivity have been found to change by a factor of 2. The observed nonlinear behavior is to a good approximation described by an expression which relates the dielectric characteristics of BaTiO_3 crystals to the electromechanical ones.
