The housing market is on a roll again. Average prices across the UK rose by almost 9.5% in the 12 months to the end of March, according to Nationwide building society, although a large proportion of the rise is accounted for by increases in London.Good news for those who already own a house, but of less comfort to those struggling to find somewhere affordable to live. This is a particular problem in rural areas where a lack of new housing stock, combined in many cases with strong demand from commuters and second-home buyers, has helped push up prices.
