Cone beam computed tomography Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is based on conventional computed tomography (CT), where a rotating framework of an x-ray source and detector are moved around a fixed fulcrum, and the area of interest is located centrally. A supply of ionising radiation is passed through the area of interest on to the x-ray detector on the opposite side. During one rotation, multiple planar projections of the field of view (FOV) are created and stacked to construct a 3D image.
