As 2013 draws to a close, and we publish our final issue of the year, it is easy to find oneself in a reflective and celebratory mood. In case you didn't notice from our cover, the FDJ, our unusual, opinionated (yet charming?) journal, has won the ALPSP* Award for Best New Journal! I must offer my heartfelt thanks to all who contribute to this journal: our authors, readers and editors, who are fundamental in making the FDJwhat it is (we would be lost without them), Adrian Nunn and his team at thebigwindow for their beautiful covers and continuing enthusiasm and engagement, the Faculty for its undiminished support of the FDJ and all those who sail in her, the fellows and members for receiving the FDJso warmly and for helping us to improve and broaden our content and, of course, those wonderful people at ALPSP for honouring us with this prestigious award.
