Most formulators and nutritionists in the animal feed industry use formulation software based on Linear Programming (LP) to obtain least cost formulae when mixing raw materials to meet specified nutrient profiles. The accuracy of the weighing equipment within the mill usually means that the optimal raw material values have to be adjusted to take into account the limitation of the scales.
