New challenges will face feed producers supplying the pet food and equine market next year and the ability to prepare processes and accountability in order not only to meet the pressures but also to maximise new opportunities is the key to success inthis dynamic marketplace. The first challenge is a re-authorisation of additives under EC Regulation 1831 /2003 on additives for use in animal nutrition. This will be for feed additives to be used and sold after November 2010. One of the important changes relates to the new classification of trace mineral additives which will require individual approval for each species and this will have vital implications for producers of horse and pet food where important trace minerals are included in feed products.
