Commissioning of orthognathic treatment in England

NHS England has a duty to reduce health inequalities, especially in access to care and treatment outcomes as embedded in the Health and Social Care Act 2012. The intended benefit of NHS England becoming a single commissioner for all dental services was the ability to plan for and deliver more consistent standards, higher-quality services and better health outcomes for patients across the whole of England. A more consistent approach to commissioning and contract management was to be implemented to deliver these improvements.
