摘要

Diligent scouting lets you get a jump on pests. When Joe Nester of Nester Ag Management, Bryan, Ohio, trains crop scouting interns, he heads for a field of continuous corn. "We know we'll be able to find insects and other problems in a continuous-cornfield," he says. "When you set up a monocrop situation, it's like looking for trouble." That doesn't mean you can't successfully grow multiple years of corn, Nester adds—it just means you have to stay on your toes to spot pest problems. That means scouting even more diligently than you probably would in a rotational cropping situation.
