Aquaculture outpaces other food production industries

There is wide consensus that aquaculture has the potential to meet the growing global demand for nutritious food fish and to contribute to the growth of national economies, while supporting sustainable livelihoods in many communities. AQUACULTURE IS THE most rapidly growing food production sector in the world with an average growth of eight per cent. More than 90 per cent of the global aquaculture production is contributed by Asia. Although slowing down between 1999 and 2009, aquaculture production in Asia has grown much faster than in the rest of the world over this period.
