Protecting a versatile crop: Notes on disease control for avocado cultivation, in the Asia Pacific region, with cuprous oxide

AVOCADOS TREES FIRST cultivated thousands of years ago at high elevation in Mexico and Guatemala are now grown commercially throughout the tropics and sub tropics. Three quarters of global production still comes from New World countries, but the AsiaPacific Rim has become a centre of excellence in avocado research and production. Avocado is a climatically versatile tree crop successfully grown both sides of the Equator, at high and low elevations and as far south as New Zealand. Philippines, Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand have become significant producers with the crop making strong headway in countries right across south and South East Asia including India, Malaysia and Vietnam.
