When it's time to renovate or replace an older juice or wine grape vineyard, is it more economical to graft or replant? And if you have disease showing up in a vineyard, do you take out just the diseased vines or start over? Gwen Hoheisel, WashingtonState University Extension educator for Benton County, posed the hypothetical replant versus graft question during me Washington State Grape Society's annual meeting in November. Joining the discussion by teleconference was agricultural economist Dr. Clark Seavert, Oregon State University. Seavert showed growers how to use AgProfit, a free computer program designed to help growers make long-term decisions when implementing technologies or analyzing cropping systems.
