Global Sales of Plug-In EVs to Hit 3 Million/Year by 2020

Global sales of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and pure battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) will hit 3 million units annually by 2020, according to a new Navigant study. “The combination of rising [oil-product] fuel prices, falling PEV prices, and increasing availability of PEV models will drive rapid growth in this segment over the next several years. “Worldwide sales of light duty PEVs [plug-in vehicle] , including both plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and battery electric vehicles (BEVs), will reach 3 million units annually in 2020, representing 3% of the total light duty vehicle market,” according to Navigant.
