The Tate Modern as geology

If. like thousands of others each day, you make your way south of the river to Tate Modern, there are several geological experiences to add to the overall pleasure of the visit. Like everyone, you will be impressed by the lofty space of the old turbine hall and the simplicity of the seven floors of exhibition space. Then there are the breath-taking views of the riverside and the City to the north, which you gain from the 4th and 7th floors - of which, more later (Fig. 1). But at every level and in most of the thematic areas chosen and set aside for the exhibits, there are works by artists who either appreciated the materials they used or have left it to us geologists to see that something extra which is pure geology.
