The impacts of the GFC (and other `one-off' events) on Global Tourism

Tourism, like many sectors of the global economy, can be adversely affected by declinesin the level of economic activity. When this occurs on a global scale, as it did in late 2008and throughout 2009, it can seriously impact on the viability of enterprises within the sector.Tourism related enterprises are more vulnerable than those in other sectors because of theirdependence on peoples' discretionary spending decisions – the amount or portion of aperson's spending which is used to purchase non-essential goods and services.
