Western Australian government extend Kimberley LNG hub plan deadline

Western Australian state premier Colin Barnett has extended the deadline for Aboriginal groups and the state administration to reach an agreement on the location of the planned Kimberley LNG gas hub. Last December, the Western Australian government chose James Price Point, 60km north of Broome, as the preferred site for a LNG processing hub to serve producers tapping gas 300km to 400km offshore in the Browse Basin. At the time, Barnett set a deadline of March 31 for negotiations for companies operating in the region, the state administration and the Kimberley Land Council, which represents thousands of Aborigines in the Kimberley region, to agree on a site. Barnett dropped that deadline on Wednesday to allow further discussions on April 14 and 15.
