摘要

In the 1930s, it was rarely possible to listen to the radio for long without hearing someone singing the praises of Dixie. I Wish I Was in Dixie had been the marching song of the Confederate army 70 years earlier and was still popular. George and Ira Gershwin's first Tin Pan Alley success was Swanee with its yearning for the "folks in D-I-X-I-E". Many of Al Jolson's songs contained references to Dixie including, Are You from Dixie? and Is It True What They Say About Dixie?
