The Dept. of Geology was recently host to a number of events and visiting researchers/lecturers namely, the 2008 De Beers Alex du Toit memorial lecture given by Prof Tony Naldrett (it was attended by 60 guests), the annual Rainbow Rally Charity event that raises money for pediatric cancer patients (teams had to answer a questionnaire on geology using clues from the exhibits in the departmental museum), and visitors, including Dr. lain Mac Donald of Cardiff University (geochemistry of the northern limb of the Bushveld Complex); Proffs. Vincent Courtillot, Frederic Fluteau and Dr Martine Gerard, Institute of Physics of the Globe in Paris (extrusion of the Deccan flood basalts in India) and Dr. Duncan Miller an independent consultant (archaeometallurgy in Africa).
