The Council of the GSSA has a position for a student representative, who attends Council meetings and acts a voice for geoscience students in South Africa. I have been the student representative on Council for almost a year now and have survived a number of Council meetings. As the student representative on Council I have been able to ensure that students are not forgotten in the dealings of the Council and the GSSA and have provided a students perspective on various matters, such as transformation within the society. The Student Geocongress, which is to be hosted by the UOFS in June this year, is the biggest event of the GSSA calendar for students and it has been my job to make sure that any matters concerning this reach Council and that the organising committee of the SGC receive any help they need from Council and the GSSA. However, this year's organising committee, headed by Annegret Lombard and Kady Pinetown, is so efficient and organised that I have had practically nothing to do!
