The 10th International Symposium on Avian Endocrinology (ISAE 2012) was held in Gifu, Japan from 5 to 9 June, 2012, organized by the ISAE 2012 Organizing Committee (Chair: Kazuyoshi Tsutsui) in association with the Japan Society for Avian Endocrinology, Japanese Society of Animal Science, Zoological Society of Japan, Japan Society for Comparative Endocrinology, Japan Poultry Science Association, Ornithological Society of Japan, Yamashina Institute for Ornithology, and Gifu University. Every 4 years the ISAE brings together scientists from over the world, interested in an up-to-date overview of the field of avian endocrinology. The ISAE takes place in a rotation system among Asia, Europe, and America. After Calcutta (1977), Tokyo (1988), and Varanasi (2000), the ISAE 2012 in Gifu was the fourth meeting in Asia. The ISAE 2012 was successfully organized by the ISAE 2012 Organizing Committee and the International Committee (Chair: Veerle M. DarrasJ. The ISAE 2012 provided an ideal opportunity to meet and talk to scientists actively in divergent aspects pf avian endocrinology. The International Scientific Committee (Co-Chairs: Kazuyoshi Tsutsui and Takashi Yoshimura) made an excellent scientific program of the ISAE 2012. The scientific program of the ISAE 2012 comprised of one Special Lecture, four Plenary Lectures, 15 Symposia and 72 posters. The outstanding contributions by all speakers and poster presenters made a very successful meeting.
