U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) officials announced August 11 that they're granting US$21.3 million for 15 projects aimed at secure underground storage of carbon dioxide (CO2). The projects aim to boost development of "near-zero-emission coal technologies" while "making the U.S. a leader in mitigating climate change," according to DOE.
