Optical media boost polycarbonate

Demand for polycarbonate in Western Europe continued to show good growth after the sharp decline in 2001.According to Grant Fisher,product director of engineering plastics in Europe for Dow Plastics,PC sales are growing at 6-8% this year following a rise of 4-6% in 2003."The improvement in growth compared with last year is partly due to a pick-up in major European economies such as Germany and France,"he says."I expect growth of this order to be maintained during the next five years."Asia Pacific is driving demand.Consumption of PC for optical media in Asia Pacific is growing by at least 15% per annum;in Europe and North America,this is around 10% per annum.In global terms,the PC market is growing at 10-12% per annum.
