Mercedes puts Skinform on the road

German moulder Schenk Plastics Solutions is using the Skin-form two-component moulding process to produce headrests for use on a variety of Mercedes-Benz models, including the C, S and M class designs. The parts are said to be the first Skinform mouldings to be used commercially. The Skinform process was developed by injection moulding and PU processing machinery maker Krauss-Maffei, together with Schenk and PU systems house Ruehl Pumomer. The process allows a reaction thermoset flexible PU to be overmoulded onto a rigid thermoplastic core in a single process step.
