DESIGN BASF teamed up with the Ding 3000 design studio in Germany to create a modern velocipede, the 19th century bicycle in which a crank directly drives the front wheel. The bicycle, which is not intended for production, has an integrated battery pack and uses 24 BASF materials. Engineering thermoplastics are used in various applications. Ultamid polyamide is used in the crank, motor cover and rear wheel rim; Ultrason materials (polysulfone and other polymers) are used in the pedals, seat mount and brake discs; Ul-traform polyacetal is used in the seat latch mechanism.
