Junta puts quality at centre of Andalusian export drive: The Junta de Andalucia has launched several key initiatives to boost the profile of the region's fresh produce exports

AGRICULTURAL production generated some 8.3bn EUR for the autonomous region of Andalusia last year, with fresh produce making up 47 per cent of this total. More than 120,000ha are given over to the cultivation of fruits and vegetables, tomatoes, strawberries, peppers and cucumbers being amongst the main products grown for export. The region of Almerfa alone boasts 48,000ha of open-field and greenhouse production, while in Huelva, the hub of Spain's soft fruit industry, strawberry and raspberry fieldsstretch as far as the eye can see, spanning more than 7,000ha in total.
