If you're feeling the squeeze of the sluggish economy, it may be tempting to try to bring in some extra money by "renting out" your extra stalls or pasture space. But opening your property to boarders requires a commitment of time and resources that can ultimately affect your ability to enjoy your own horses. Is boarding worth it? "Yes," says Tara Buckbee, who began taking in boarders on her Forest Lake, Minnesota, property a year ago. "It helps pay the feed bill for my horse and maybe a little extra to do more showing," says Buckbee, who, along with her husband, fixed up a run-dowj farm and brought in seven boarders after years of keeping their two horses at a stable.
