Periacmini, a New Tribe of the Microlepidopteran Subfamily Amphisbatinae (Lepidoptera, Amphisbatidae)

Based on the structure of the labial palpi in males, genus Periacma Meyr. and the related genera Irepacma Moriuti, Saito et Lewv. and Ripeacma Moriuti, Saito et Lewv. are separated into the new tribe Periacmini tribus n. in the subfamily Amphisbatinae(Amphisbatidae). The genus Periacma Meyrick, 1894 comprises more than 60 species distributed in southern and southeastern Asia. Rather recently other 2 closely related genera, Irepacma and Ripeacma, also occurring in southeastern Asia, were described (Moriuti, Saito and Lewvanich, 1985). The genus Periacma was originally placed by Meyrick (1894) in the family Depressariidae and then transferred by him to the family Oecophoridae (Meyrick, 1922). Later, after splitting Oecophoridae sensu lato into several families (Minet, 1990; Leraut, 1993; Hodges, 1999), this genus was placed into the family Amphisbatidae by Lvovsky (2002). Species of Periacma Meyr. share with other representatives of this family the shape of the uncus, resembling elongated sclerotized process, and the lobate gnathos usually covered with numerous fine spines. At the same time, species belonging to Periacma and to the closely related genera Irepacma and Ripeacma exhibit a distinctive structure of the labial palpi, which distinguishesthem from all other representatives of the family Amphisbatidae and validated the description of a new tribe in the subfamily Amphisbatinae.
