On break of the 'species-number/abundance' curve drawn for the epipelagic nektonic communities in the waters off the Kuril Islands, the Pacific Ocean

An unusual relationship of abundance of all the individuals in a sample and number of species found in it is discussed. When at logarithmic scale of either abscissa or ordinate the correlation curve has a distinct break in its central part. The left,linear segment of the curve rises at angle twice as great as its right linear segment. The given interesting phenomenon in question is explained on the basis of the piece wise analysis of the species-frequency curve.
