Aquatic Mites (Acari, Hydracarina) of the 'Olmanskie Bolota' Landscape Reserve (Belarus)

Results of the faunistic studies of Hydracarina in the "Olmanskie Bolota" Landscape Reserve (central part of the forest zone of Belarus, Brest Province), performed in 1995 and 1996, are presented. A total of 60 species belonging to 11 families were revealed. Problems of the effective protection of unique territories are closely associated with problems of the revelation and protection of rare and disappearing species of plants and animals. However, frequently insufficient fundamental faunistic and floristic information on certain taxonomic groups, dwelling in especially protected territories, including data on aquatic invertebrates, hamper filling of nature protection, monitoring, and biodiversity retaining programs with real contents. This is alsotrue for the fauna of aquatic mites of the "Olmanskie Bolota" (Olmany Wetlands) Landscape Reserve. The study of these animals was the goal of our studies.
