Diversity and distribution of soil oribatid mites (Acari: Oribatida) in Himachal Pradesh - an overview.

The present work deals with a collection of soil oribatid mites from diverse habitats of 12 districts of Himachal Pradesh. The study includes the current survey data as well as the works documented earlier. Altogether 43 species of oribatid mites belonging to 29 genera and 25 families have been recorded. The family Scheloribatidae (65.7%) contributed the maximum followed by the family Tectocepheidae (13%). Maximum number of species belonged to the genus Scheloribates (59.3%).
