Eastern Mediterranean migrations of Pieris rapae (Linnaeus, 1758) (Lepidoptera: Pieridae): observations in Cyprus, 2001 and 2007

Observations of migratory butterfly activity within Cyprus are rare, with published records of such movements especially meagre. This paper documents three separate northward migrations of Pieris rapae (Linnaeus, 1758) in April 2001, and again in April and May 2007. Here, we present what may be the first account of a trans-Mediterranean Sea migration of P. rapae observed off the northern coast of Cyprus, heading in the direction of Turkey some 120 km north of the point of sighting.
