This article is a brief presentation of Internet telephony, which slowly but firmly becomes an essential part of our communication. In the first two chapters, the basic principles of IP telephony are described, and also a comparison with standard telephony is made, with the advantages and disadvantages displayed. Further along in the article the protocol architecture on which IP telephony lies is described, while the fourth chapter focuses on everything important about signalling protocols in VoIP, Session initiation protocol, and the H.323 protocol framework. In the fifth chapter, communication scenarios in VoIP are closely examined, continuing with a review of quality of service, and its part in real time applications.
