Greater productivity with new drive system-Siemens to modernize wire rod mill in a Chinese steelworks

The Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services group (I&S) has received an order from the Chinese Ma Steel International Trade and Economic Corp. to supply electrotechnical equipment for modernizing the high speed wire rod mill in the steel works of the Maanshan Iron and Steel company. The new 'flexible reduction and sizing block' and six additional new stands on the wire rod mill will be fitted with three-phase drive systems as well as the associated automation systems based on the Simatic PCS 7 process control system. The contract has a value of around 3.4 million and also includes the modernization of existing drives. The wire rod mill is to start production at the end of 2002.
