Poor air quality, the number one environmental cause of premature death in the EL) with a toll that outstrips road traffic accidents, is to be tackled with new measures to reduce air pollution from the European Commission. In 2010, more than 400,000 people are estimated to have died prematurely from air pollution in the EU. Now, a new clean air policy package is to update existing legislation to further reduce harmful emissions from industry, traffic, energy plant and agriculture.
