Diversity in salicylic acid effects on growth criteria and different indole acetic acid forms among faba bean and maize.

Two pot experiments were conducted in a greenhouse in Egypt to investigate the effect of salicylic acid (SA) on growth and different IAA forms of faba bean cv. Giza 2 and maize single Hybrid 10. Faba bean seeds were sown on 20 November, while maize seeds were sown on 3 May. After one month from complete germination (1 January for faba and 10 June for maize), SA was sprayed at 0, 2, 3, 4 and 5 mM. Different IAA forms were observed at 3 and 6 days after treatment. SA increased faba bean growth at all rates, while SA at high rates (3, 4 and 5 mM) reduced maize growth characters. The free IAA in faba and maize leaves at the vegetative stage reached approximately 31 and 14% of the total, while amide form comprised 43 and 70%, and ester form comprised 26 and 17%, respectively..
