Depletion of body iron stores is common among female athletes. Poor dietary iron intake, menstruation, and increased iron losses associated with physical training all appear to be important factors. Whether non-anemic iron deficiency can impair exercise performance is uncertain. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of 8 weeks iron supplementation on aerobic power and endurance performance of athlete females. Samples of study, were 28 athlete women with serum ferritin lower than 20ng/mL, and 26.39±2.64 years old, 163±4.17 Cm's height and 61.61±5.70 Kg's weight, that was divided randomly and in a double blind project, in two groups, that one group was placebo group (control) and the other group was user of Iron supplementary materials (experimental). V02max, Time of performance to exhaustion, Blood lactate and Maximum heart rate of samples were measured before and after Iron supplementation. The Samples was use 100 mg of elemental iron as ferrous sulfate or placebo daily for 8weeks. The data analysis (by paired t-test and independent t-test) in experimental group showed that 8 weeks Iron supplementation has significant effect (P<0.05) on all measured parameters except maximum heart rate (P=0.278), and in placebo group showedno significant effect among athlete women. In comparison between two Groups after supplementation, the result showed that iron supplementation lead to better condition in experimental group than placebo group at blood lactate (P=0.010), but in other parameters no significant differences was observed (P>0.05).
