Present investigation was under taken to study the growth rate and relative contribution of area and yield on production of three major crops namely jowar, cotton and soybean. The study was based on secondary data for the period of 23 years (1985-86 to 2006-07) for the districts viz., Buldana,Yavatmal, Akola, Amravati, Amravati division and Ambravati division as a whole of western vidarbha of maharashtra. The study revealed that overall period the compound growth rate for all most all the district inAmbravati division were declined by 3 % per annum in area as well as production for the jowar crops. The growth rate of cotton in all most all of Ambravati division and also division as a whole was found to be drastically decline in period-II as compared to period-I, except Akola district. The growth rate has found to be positive and significant in all districts of Ambravati division in area, production and yield of soybean and overall period, the area effect was most stronger factor for increasing production of jowar in all the districts and except Akola district i.e. -305.22 per cent. At overall period, the result were clearly indicates that the yield effect was most responsible for production of cotton in all districts of Amravati division as a whole. During overall period, the area effect was most responsible factor for increasing soybean production in Amravati division i.e. 46.98 per cent with positive yield and interaction effect i.e. 1.91 and 51.41 per cent respectively.
