In response to member requests and as part of the reinforcement of activity within the International Scene the Association of Building Engineers, in conjunction with the Coventry and Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce, visited Singapore. Our visit was hosted by Doctor Sam Man Keong, a Fellow of the Association and our regional representative for Singapore. The visit included opportunities to visit academic institutions and meet with Dr Teng of Trent Global to explore opportunities for academic, CPD and other professional activities. Dr Teng, chair of CIOB Singapore, welcomed the ABE to their Centre and allowed positive interaction and offered future hosting of joint CIOB/ABE activities with Dr Sam and fellow members. Positive initiatives, positive action and developments for 2005. The Association were hosted at the British High Commission by Ian Morrison, Deputy Director of Trade and Investment, and at a reception on UK Science and Technology by the British High Commissioner, Alan Collins CMC. Both meetings explored the role and opportunities for the Association and its members within Singapore and explored the transfer of learning and development both through degree programmes and CPD activities. Business in a new environment is complex; a presentation by Jim James, East West Consultancy, clarified not only the business ethics operating within Singapore but provided very clear hands-on information on doing business in Asia.
