Pioneers in Agronomy -STRI's grass roots

I am not proposing to give a complete history of turf-grass research and agronomy but I would like to pick out two influential figures who contributed greatly to the development of the scientific approach to golf course management. These were Dr C M Murray and Norman Hackett.Neither were agronomists by the modern definition. Dr Murray was born in South Africa and trained as a medical doctor at Cambridge and at Guy's Hospital in London.
