US refining capacity is expected to exceed demand by 2 million barrels per day through January 2010, the Energy Information Administration says in its latest assessment of the US refining industry. That suggests at least 10% of available capacity will not be needed, which the agency called "consistent with the recent refinery utilization rates of slightly greater than 85% of capacity."
