The UK's Gulf Keystone said Wednesday that the spud is "imminent" of its first well, with Hungary's Mol, in the Shaikan acreage it operates in the Kurdistan region of northern Iraq. The company says it is targeting multiple zones with billion barrel-plus oilin- place potential (IOD Oct.16,p7). Drilling will start in the Mol-operated Akri-Bijeel Block in the third quarter; all rig and services contracts are in place, Gulf Keystone said.
