South African refiner Sasol says it lacks the appropriate technology to participate in a coal-to-liquids (CTL) project in Uzbekistan using reserves from the Angren coal field. The project's feasibility study, conducted jointly by Sasol and state Uzbekcoal, showed that Sasol's CTL technology is only profitable with projects that have annual coal output o around 50 million tons. Angren produces slightly over three million tons a year, the news agency Prime-Tass reported Tuesday, citing an official at the Uzbek firm.
